This new traveling display from the Carbon County Historical Society of Red Lodge will be on display at the Western Heritage Center through May 21, 2022. The Beartooth Highway, which opened in 1936, is commonly known as one of the world’s most beautiful and dramatic roads. This exhibit explores the rich history of this stunning, 11,000-foot-high, marvel of engineering.  The twelve-panel, pop-up, banner exhibit covers local geology, indigenous history and geography, the mining industry, Yellowstone National Park policy and tourism, and the complex politics, finances, and engineering involved in planning, construction, and maintenance.
