William Lang, Ph.D., director of the Center for Columbia River History in Portand, Oregon, will present a lecture entitled "The Environmental History of the West" on Thursday, May 23 at 7:00 PM at the Billings Deaconess Clinic Conference Center, 2800 10th Avenue North. Admission is free and the public is encouraged to attend.

Dr. Lang is the former executive editor for the Montana Magazine of Western History and now serves as director of the Center for Columbia River History in Portland, Oregon. He is the co-author of Centennial West: Essays on the Northern Tier States. His lecture coincides with a yearlong exhibit and educational programming at the Western Heritage Center, Life by Comparison: The Stories of Frederick and Parmly Billings.
