Daniel Nadenicek, Associate Professor of Landscape Architecture and Director of the Center for Studies in Landscape History at Pennsylvania State University, will present a lecture entitled "Historic Landscape Architecture" on Thursday, May 16 at 7:00 PM at the Billings Depot (2310 Montana Avenue). Admission is free and the public is encouraged to attend.
Nadenicek has written extensively about the origins of
the profession of landscape architecture during the 19th century and its relationship
to important literary ideas about the landscape and civilization. Currrent projects
include researching the early years of 19th-century forestery in America for
the Marsh-Billings-Rockefeller National Historical park in Woodstock, Vermont
and a landscape character study at the Presidio in San Francisco. His lecture
coincides with a year-long exhibit and educational programming at the Western
Heritage Center, Life by Comparison: The Stories of Frederick and Parmly Billings.
The lecture is co-sponsored by the American Society of Landscape Architects
and the Billings Preservation Association.
